Matt Cozzi, Chair
Matt was born and raised in Reno, Nevada. Joining the United States Army, he served with distinction in the Military Police while stationed in Ft. Bragg, NC. Matt is currently General Manager of Legends Nightclub in Downtown Raleigh. He devotes much of his time and talents to The Alliance.
Patrick Lee, Vice-Chair
Patrick is employed by Gilead Sciences as an officer in charge of Community Liaison. He is a member of the Crape Myrtle Festival Board of Directors and is involved in several other community organizations. Patrick graduated from UNC Law School in 2001 after obtaining an undergraduate degree from Mercer University in 1992.
Fenita Morris-Shepard, Secretary
Fenita Morris-Shepard graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1989 and earned her Juris Doctorate at North Carolina Central University law school in 1992. She is a member of both the Texas and North Carolina bars. Ms. Morris-Shepard was a U.S. Department of Justice litigator. She served under Janet Reno as an Assistant United States Attorney in the Civil Division in the Eastern District of North Carolina for eight years. Fenita has held numerous in-house counsel positions including Assistant General Counsel with Wachovia Bank, N.A. and General Counsel of the North Carolina Education Lottery. Ms. Morris-Shepard has served on the Boards of the NC Justice Center as well as the African American Dance Ensemble. In 2010, she opened KoolKidz, a drop-in childcare center in Apex, NC and became a certified Employment Law mediator. Fenita currently works as Litigation Counsel for Laboratory Corporation of America (“LabCorp”). She lives in Raleigh with her husband, Michael, and two children, Donovan (10) and Cameron (6).
Melanie Black Dubis, Treasurer
Melanie is a partner in the law firm of Parker Poe. In 1992, Melanie graduated with honors from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She earned her law degree in 1995, attending Vanderbilt University. At Parker Poe, she handles commercial disputes at the trial and appellate level for corporate and individual clients in the pharmaceutical, manufacturing, insurance, financial services and technology industries. Melanie has experience in North Carolina state and federal courts, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth and Federal Circuits, and in arbitration proceedings. She and her husband are avid runners.
Andrew May, Vice-Treasurer
Andy May is a Master Certified Mortgage Banker. He graduated from the Fuqua School of Business, Duke University. He is Managing Director and COO of AAFMAA Mortgage Services, LLC. In addition, he is the founder of Andy May Group, LLC and has worked for some of the country’s largest insurance and banking entities. Andy and his wife, Sara, have three daughters and support many civic organizations throughout the great State of North Carolina.
Barbara Boney Campbell
A native of Tarboro, Barbara moved to Raleigh in 1985. She worked and operated her catering business, BARBARA BONEY CATERS, retiring in 2011. She has a history of service in community organizations. Barbara has been a member of The State Capitol Foundation since 1992, serving as President for 7 years. She also served as Chairman of the Raleigh Historic Districts Commission from 1988-1993 and as Founding Chair of the Wake County Historic Preservation Commission, 1994-1996. She proudly served on The Crape Myrtle Court in 1999. Her awards include The Gertrude Carraway Award, given by Preservation/NC, and The Anthemion Award, given by Capitol Area Preservation, both for Preservation Leadership. She received The Order Of The Long Leaf Pine in 2006.
Bennett Rose Payne
Bennett brings to the Alliance a history of successful service with Raleigh area non-profits. He is known as a loyal and dedicated volunteer. He is a team player and a quick study. To learn the management side of business, Bennett engaged in mastering and implementing new strategies and is currently employed on the staff of the Angus Barn. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Business Management from North Carolina State University. Bennett recently moved to Creedmoor.
Lloyd Spell is a Senior Director of Business Development for Acadia Healthcare. Lloyd graduated from Regent University in 2006 with a MA in Community and School Counseling after obtaining an undergraduate degree from Holmes College. He has worked in the Mental Health field since 2000 and has extensive work with providing Mental Health Services in both Outpatient and Inpatient treatment programs with a focus primarily with Children and Adolescents. He joined Acadia Healthcare in April 2011 and has since worked in Business Development and provided placement support Nationally with State Medicaid Plans, Social Service Agencies and and Juvenile Court Program to ensure youth are able to access appropriate services to address Mental Health and Substance Abuse treatment needs. Lloyd is a North Carolina native.
Rick Wellington is originally from Atlanta but has called the Triangle home for over 25 years. He has been a Realtor since 1986 and has a small business background. He has been involved with AIDS charities since 1996 and has chaired the Alliance AIDS Ride and Red Ribbon Ride for many years. Rick has a talent for bringing new talent to the table and looks forward to building relationships and partnerships for the Alliance.
J. Gaston B. Williams
Gaston has returned to the Board after having previously served as Chairman of the Alliance. Gaston, a native of Staunton, Virginia, is a former Assistant United States Attorney and Trial Attorney for the U.S. Department of Justice in Washington, DC. He graduated from T.C. Williams School of Law at the University of Richmond. He was a career prosecutor in the State and Federal Courts. Gaston served on the organizational Board of the Alliance of AIDS Services – Carolina when it was created in 1999. In addition to his work with the Alliance, he has served as past President and Member of the Board of the Raleigh Business and Professional Network (RBPN).
